Add Dimples for a Youthful and Vibrant Look

There’s no greater indicator of youth than dimples. Those little indentations in your cheeks that only show up when you smile are an endearing genetic trait than subtly enhances and brightens your entire face.

For those lucky enough to have them, dimples are considered a sign of youthfulness and beauty. Unfortunately, most people born with natural facial dimples tend to lose them as the body changes during the aging process. A dimpleplasty procedure can easily restore those adorable marks or give you the ones you’ve always wanted.

Who might benefit from Dimpleplasty?

Dimpleplasty is a great option for both men and women who desire dimples or want to enhance their existing dimples.  Most healthy people can be considered candidates for dimpleplasty. During your consultation with our board certified plastic surgeon a review of your medical history and an examination will determine if you are a candidate.

How is a Dimpleplasty performed?

The dimpleplasty is a minor surgical procedure that Dr. Zuliani will perform under local anesthesia in most cases. The goal is to attach the skin of the cheek to the underlying muscle, so when the muscle contracts during smiling, the dimple is revealed.

Dr. Zuliani will start by marking the appropriate spots on your cheeks where you’ve chosen to place your dimples. A small incision will then be made inside your mouth and a dissolvable stitch will be attached to the underside of the cheek, creating the indentation. The stitch usually dissolves on its own in about 6‐12 months, and the resulting scar tissue will permanently create a dimple when the muscle moves. The entire procedure takes only about a half hour.

What can be expected after a Dimpleplasty?

Patients typically recover very quickly from a dimpleplasty. Mild swelling, bruising, and soreness in the cheeks can last for about 2-3 days following the procedure. You may return to normal activities the day after, but it’s recommended that you avoid intense exercise for several days. An over-the-counter pain reliever can combat any discomfort you may experience.

At first, your new dimples will be visible at all times, even when you aren’t smiling. As the stitches dissolve, the dimples will become less pronounced and start to look more natural.
